Town of Vegreville and Provectus Biofuels Sign Agreement to Advance Sustainable Aviation Fuel Project

Vegreville, AB (March 5, 2025) -- The Town of Vegreville has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Provectus Biofuels Inc. to support the development of DobroJet Biofuels, a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility that will leverage the region’s abundant wheat straw feedstock.

This strategic agreement follows the Vegreville region’s recent ‘A’ rating in the Biomass Development Opportunity (BDO) Zone assessment. A BDO Zone rating is an internationally recognized, standards-based technical risk assessment that evaluates the viability of biomass feedstocks, supply chain resilience, and infrastructure capabilities for the development of biofuel, renewable chemical, biogas, and bioproduct facilities.

The DobroJet Biofuels facility will utilize Provectus Biofuels’ proprietary technology to convert agricultural residues into renewable jet fuel. This innovative approach supports Canada’s clean energy transition, advances airline sustainability initiatives, and contributes to national carbon reduction goals.

Open quotation mark with solid fill“The establishment of the DobroJet Biofuels facility would be a significant milestone not just for the Vegreville region but for Canada as a whole. This project presents a unique opportunity to support regional farmers by creating a new revenue stream through the sale of wheat straw while also driving economic development through investment attraction and job creation. More importantly, it provides a made-in-Alberta solution to reducing carbon emissions by producing low-carbon aviation fuel—an essential component of our country’s clean energy strategy and carbon reduction commitments.”
